ABOUT
Poems of Consumption is the acclaimed solo project by Lebanese composer, writer, and performer H.Sinno, best known as the lyricist and frontperson of Mashrou' Leila.
Part concert, part multimedia performance, and part poetic meditation, Poems of Consumption explores the emotional contradictions of modern life through songs built from an unexpected source: Amazon customer reviews transformed into poetry. Partially inspired by Mark Fisher’s Capitalist Realism, Poems of Consumption is a song cycle covering themes like ennui, surveillance capitalism, heartbreak, boycotts, and orientalism, with compositions that juxtapose harsh electronica with the whimsy of a string quartet.
Originally commissioned by London's Barbican Centre and Shubbak Festival, the production has been praised for its fearless artistic vision and emotional honesty, bringing together experimental music, theatre, and literature into a deeply personal live experience.
