Elsa Corgié and Chakib Kouidri of Mezar deliver a transformative live performance where Arab and North African traditions — from desert blues to Afro influences — collide with contemporary sonic experimentation.

Drawing from sacred Sufi texts and the Algerian diwan repertoire, Mezar reimagines forgotten rhythms through modern composition, hypnotic sound design, and nomadic storytelling.
ABOUT THE BAND
Mezar earned the Prix Révélations Radio-Canada in Montreal in 2019 under the name Nomad ben Stones. their latest album Sohan was released in May 2024 with support from the Canada Council for the Arts. The project has since been presented at the MaMA Convention in Paris and was named a finalist for the Prix des Musiques d’Ici — cementing their place at the intersection of ancestral memory, modern sound, and nomadic narrative.
Their Toronto debut promises an intimate, hypnotic experience where the earth’s pulse meets cinematic textures — a gathering of ancient stories and contemporary voices in one immersive night.
In a time when Arab cultures are too often reduced to conflict and cliché, Mezar’s work reclaims space for their richness, complexity, and resilience as a living, evolving creative force.
